In the international arena, IMI can run tightly-targeted operations aimed at swaying specific diplomatic personnel, bureaucratic functionaries, or transnational meeting attendees; or we can wage long-term campaigns of persuasion in country capitals and among the leaders that ultimately will steer the outcomes that interest you.

IMI can also execute campaigns to influence positions in international fora like the World Trade Organization (WTO) and its Trade-Related Aspects of Intellectual Property Rights (TRIPS) council, the World Health Organization (WHO), the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), and the Convention on Biodiversity (CBD).

In a past campaign, in order to bring the client’s perspective before a WTO panel, IMI’s chief operative organized and executed a series of activities culminating in a mission to the council meeting. These activities included recruiting economists for expert analysis, crafting a study to quantify the impact to countries engaged in the debate, conducting one-on-one meetings with diplomats, and briefing reporters. The actions helped educate council member countries and marginalize the issue in the council.

At the federal level, IMI can help urge targeted Members of Congress or Administration decision-makers to take our clients’ view by identifying allies and getting them to speak out, as well as deploying state/local and online assets to bring grassroots voices to bear in the debate.

IMI has helped a major national client pass a piece of legislation estimated to increase U.S. trade with the small target country by $1 billion. For another Federal client, one of the nation’s largest trade associations, IMI crafted an entire healthcare policy from scratch, pulling together issue experts’ input into a master report with research, recommendations, and a path forward.

Over the years, IMI’s campaign manager ran a winning year-long campaign culminating in a U.S. Senate vote that saved a client $3.8 billion in a single year and denied the client’s foreign competitors a $4.4 billion windfall. He organized grassroots support for a bill that was associated with his client industry’s profit increasing $8 billion in six months. And he helped fight off a measure that by one estimate would have depressed his clients’ product prices by 30%.

For instance, the firm’s chief campaign manager ran a series of state-level campaigns fighting off tax increases for consumers of a widely-used technology. He also conducted a spot campaign that stopped a top-profile piece of state legislation in its tracks.

IMI’s stock-in-trade is mobilizing grassroots support for its clients. Elected leaders ultimately answer to constituencies, and IMI draws on years of experience persuading those constituencies to reach out to the elected leaders on issues that affect them.

IMI boasts a national and international network of political operatives, many of whom who run campaigns for a living. They can appeal to decision-makers not based on personal relationships, but by raising the political stakes of any given decision.

Any firm can generate a rush of emails, phone calls or postcards – so much so that now they have virtually no independent impact on Congress in any but the largest campaigns.

By contrast, local operatives identifying the key players in leaders’ electorates that agree with a client, educating them, and mobilizing them can have a tectonic impact on those leaders’ decisions. And when coupled with online and offline activation, that impact can be even greater.

Bring the weight of American democracy to bear on those making decisions that affect you. Or join us in helping mobilize that grassroots support.

IMI excels at getting punching messages through the clutter of the day’s news.

The firm helps clients generate press coverage in targeted publications that affect the campaign’s decision-makers. Whether working with the client’s spokespeople or third-party allies, IMI has the local connections and the issue-specific expertise to get its clients ink – or links.

When earned media just isn’t enough, IMI can also work to design and run paid media campaigns – from TV to radio to print to the Internet. Advertising agencies know how to create an ad; IMI knows how to incorporate them as part of a campaign.

Before talking to the first reporter or cutting the first ad, IMI can help develop and test a powerful message, and then craft a panoply of written materials and collaterals based on that message. We all know that message is king; but IMI knows the systematic way campaign managers select which messages to crown, and how to introduce them to their subjects.
